What is a crane pendant control switch and where it is used?


What is crane pendant:

The name itself implies that it is a part of a crane and used for the industrial sectors. The crane pendant is used to control the hoist which is connected with the overhead crane. It is a main part of the EOT crane and it is also called the crane control unit. The crane pendant station is connected with the overhead crane with a long cable wire known as crane pendant cable. The cable wire is suspended from the hoist and dangled down like a pendant hence it is called as a  pendantcontrol switch. The crane pendant station is an important part of the crane and hence if any issue or error is found in the system then the maintenance person checks it first.

 

Working fundamental of crane pendant:

The crane pendant work on the principle of totally wired systems. Many wires are connected to the overhead crane which provides a fast and secure connection. The crane can be operated with the help of operators. The one operator sits in the cabin of an overhead crane while another operator guides and monitor the EOT crane movement from the ground. The operator which is on the ground used the pendant control unit to control the hoist. This wired pendant pushbutton control is connected with the hoist and hung from the machines. The operator walks alongside the crane when it passes over the runway due to the wired systems.



 

Why choose crane pendant push button:

There are many reasons for choosing the crane pendant push button for controlling the overhead crane and they are as follows.

First of all the crane pendant push button station comes with a wired system. That means all the activity takes place through the wired systems which provide faster and safe communication with the receiver. As it works on electrical supply so there is no need for the battery to charge or to replace them after certain uses of time. The pendant control unit is equipped with many wired routes. So if a dead spot is found in any route then crane pendant control doesn't stop working. While in the case of wireless radio remote if any dead spot is found then the transmitter immediately stops working. 

The main importance of using a crane pendant is that there is no chance of interruption or disturbance from the outside activity. The wired crane pendant push button switch provides the stability and durability for the device. 

 

Disadvantages of using crane pendant switch:

Possibly the only significant disadvantage of crane pendant switch systems is that they move the operator on the periphery of the crane operating area which is risky, especially for heavy lifting cranes, where accidental load drops can injure the operator and can be fatal. In addition, when the operator walks on the runway, observes the crane, and ensures that the loading and lowering are safe and accident-free, he will face the risk of tripping, slipping, or colliding with obstacles. Another potential risk of using wired suspension control devices is that the cables directly connected to the crane may be jammed by the crane mechanism, which will not only damage the control system, but also other parts of the crane.
